|Review|: Bh Cosmetics Carli Bybel Palette

Hi Love!

The trend of collaborations between Cosmetic brands and Makeup enthusiasts started some 2-3 years back. A lot of makeup brands collaborated with You tubers and the trend is still at its peak. To date, many of these You tubers have launched their own brand line of makeup and skin care products. One such collab was between BH Cosmetics and You tube sensation, Carli Bybel. Carli Bybel came up with a 14 panned eyeshadow and highlighter palette. My today's review is on BH Cosmetics Carli Bybel 14 color eyeshadow and highlighter palette.

Here is what BH says about the Carli Bybel Palette:

"Beauty expert and You tube sensation Carli Bybel designed this versatile 14 color eyeshadow and highlighter palette to dial up the drama and add excitement to your look. Carli's taste for chic refinement and modern elegance inspired her to select a collection of earthy neutrals and plummy brown shadows with four face highlighters that compliment every skin tone. The mix of matte and shimmers makes it easy to go from amped-up evening intensity to tones-down daytime options."

Packaging:

The palette has a marble color combination of white and grey cardboard packaging. The inside is sleek white with neatly set 10 eye shadow pans and 4 highlighter pans. It has a moderate sized mirror on the inner side of the lid. I hardly ever use these mirrors as they do not provide a clear view. The palette is light weight, around 0.46 grams but not travel friendly. The magnetic clasp can open with the slightest of push.

Texture:

The texture of this palette is smooth, buttery for shimmer shades. However the matte shades are quite dud when it comes to application. The color pay off is powdery and not very pigmented. The darkest color in row 2 gave me so much trouble while applying on the lid.

Top row has cool toned colors inclining towards purple and berry tones. 4 shades are matte while 1 is shimmery.

Middle row is all about brown, champagne and bronze tones. 4 shimmer and 1 matte shade.

Bottom row contains 4 highlighters ranging from frosty pink to dark brown.

My Thoughts:

Eye shadows:

The palette contains 5 shimmery shades and 5 matte shades. The shades do not come with individual names. The shimmery shades are pigmented, buildable and smooth upon application. However I am not pleased with the matte ones. They are too powdery in my opinion and also lack in pigmentation. The third eye shadow in row 1 is least pigmented, followed by the one next to it.

For me this palette is an autumn wear. The shades are dark and dull. I would not classify this palette as a nude palette at all. For me its more of a berry smokey palette. I find myself going for it in Winters mostly due to the dark and dull colors.

The stay on power of this palette is also low. The powdery shades tend to dissolve and disappear on the eyes after some hours or they crease up. However the matte shades tend to perform better.

Highlighters:

I tried really hard to like the highlighters but unfortunately I did not like them due to excessive glitter chunks in them. The highlighters are buttery, smooth but the presence of glitter chunks is so off putting. They are very well pigmented and color pay off is excellent. The color variety in the palette is wide, ranging from frosty pink to deep brown. The highlighters can be used as eye shadows as well especially the deep brown one since its color pay off is too loud for light or neutral skin tones. Carli herself recommends using it more as a glow-y bronzer than a highlight.

My face with BH Carli Bybel palette on lids

The above photo is proof of how powdery the matte shades are. I had primer on my lids then spent good time to build up the color to show up this much.

Pros:
  • Affordable
  • variety of highlighters

Cons:
  • Limited color choice
  • Powdery
  • Color pay off
  • Glitter chunks in highlighters

Price:

$12

I bought it for Rs. 2670 inclusive of delivery charges from a Facebook Store that is no longer active.

Availability:

Since BH Cosmetics isn't available in Pakistan directly. One has to opt for online Instagram of Facebook stores for purchase.

Verdict:

As much hype, as this palette received, I am disappointed with the shade variety and performance quality. I would label this palette as a "Skip"

Hope you liked the review. Stay healthy and beautiful. xoxo!!!
