[Guest Post]: The Best Dermal Fillers... Depending on your needs

9:58 AM

Hi Beauties!

We have a guest blogger with us today who will tell us about dermal fillers as in what they are, what they do and which is the best according to your needs. Let me start off by telling you what exactly dermal fillers are and then you can move to Scott's post.

Dermal fillers are used for facial aesthetic treatments and are injected into the skin. They are designed to reduce the appearance of unwanted wrinkles, contour and create volume and revitalize the skin. They are usually used to smooth away facial lines and wrinkles, create fuller lips and shape facial contours such as cheeks and chin. Knowing all that now, lets start with Scott's post:

Juvederm NYC, and across the globe, has become one of the three most popular dermal fillers used by thousands of women each week. Restylane and Radiesse are also in the running. However, how does one know which one is the right one to use for the best results?

Each of these three dermal fillers has unique differences that make its use better in some situations, yet not suitable for others. This is why it is important to consult with one's skin care professional to consider the pros and cons of each. To kick off your own research, let me start you off with some in depth information on the products.

Juvederm, Restylane and Radiesse are used to rejuvenate skin and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles on the face. It is most frequently used for the nasal labial folds, or the creases that appear from the nose to the corner of the mouth, forehead lines, around the eyes, and of course the lips.

According to Emily Altman, MD, Short Hills Dermatologic Surgeon, as a hyaluronic acid filler, Juvederm outlasts Restylane as a filler for the nasal labial folds, because it consists of more robust, larger particles than the smaller ones that comprise Restylane.

The latter is more effective in filling fine wrinkles such as those found around the lips. Dr. Altman also recommends bio stimulatory fillers such as Radiesse for nasolabial folds, because this product stimulates the skin's own collagen production, adding volume to that particular area. Bio stimulatory fillers tend to last longer than hyaluronic acid fillers, however if you have an adverse reaction Radiesse is more difficult to remove than Juvederm.

San Francisco based plastic surgeon, Umang Mehta, MD, finds that all three products work well for nasolabial folds, but that Juvederm and Restylane last from 6-9 months, while Radiesse can last up to twice as long. The doctor found it advantageous that in the event of a lump or other problem, the hyaluronic acid fillers can be easily dissolved with an injection of hyaluronidase. Radiesse, on the other hand, cannot be dissolved, and usually costs more.

Boulder Colorado Dermatologist, Shawn Allen, cautions against using studies that do not stand up against the scrutiny of physicians or statisticians. It is Dr. Allen's opinion that all three products will last up to 6 months. He observes that Restylane has been shown to last up to 18 months in 95% of users, and contains this information on its label.

Manhattan Dermatologist, Ronald Shelton, is currently conducting a study that currently shows that Restylane and Juvederm last for equal periods of time. While the study is still ongoing, current findings show that Radiesse may last longer, but that using it is more painful unless used with an anesthetic. He points out that certain products work better in different areas of the face.

The bottom line is that before using Restylane, Juvederm or Radiesse, interested parties should give careful consideration to the advantages and disadvantages of each, and consult, at length, with the administering physician or skin care professional. No two individuals are alike, and each has skin care needs that are best addressed in ways that concern themselves with that person's individual situations.

  2. Nice post, here i want to add some benefits of this procedure:it really will add shape to a person’s face and offers you fuller lips. In addition, given that the Dermal Fillers treatment is making use of injections and will not call for surgical treatment, results out of dermal filler treatments happen relatively rapidly and are generally inexpensive.
