|Review|: Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless

12:37 AM

Hello Beautiful!

How many times have you been caught up in rave reviews and opted for a product just because everyone was chanting it to be THE product you had been looking for? I, for one have been a victim of this, countless times. These days I have been on the look out of good foundations as they are the  game changers of that canvas of yours, formally called the FACE. Upon this conquest I have had fair share of different foundations. Thankfully I have a relatively non problematic skin which offers me the opportunity to play around. One such experiment was Maybelline's Fit me matte + poreless foundation in 120. Read my full post to know my experience.

Packaging:

You must have seen different packaging for this product. I have seen the transparent glass bottle one and the squeeze tube one. I believe, officially its the squeeze tube packaging available in Pakistan. The glass bottle ones are usually imported by different online stores. Anyhow the squeeze tube comes in a 30 ml size and the finishing is very neat, a blend of matte and glossy befitting the foundation type being matte and poreless. The size is perfect to keep it in handbag at all times for quick touch ups if need be.

Claims:

Here is what the foundation claims to do:

  • Mattifies and refines pores with blurring micro-powders for poreless looking skin
  • Matches skin tone and texture
  • Natural, seamless finish

Ingredients

Texture:

The foundation has an orange under shade in 120, classic ivory and has a runny consistency. Its smooth to touch but isn't very thick. The coverage is also sheer to medium and is slightly build able. Since its advised for normal to oily skin and the foundation claims to be provide a matte and blurring effect, I expected the consistency to be a little thick. However its not the case.

So this is my cousin's face. She has an acne prone skin and I used her face to demonstrate coverage of the foundation. In below picture she is not wearing anything on her face.

Clean face, nothing applied

In this picture, Maybelline's Fit me matte + poreless is applied on her face and fully blended with a damp beauty blender.

My cousin has an oily and dull skin and the foundation resulted in an orange tinge to her skin. Also, the foundation did not settle well on to her skin. It felt as if the foundation is merely resting on top and isn't settling deep onto the skin. However after a while, the foundation blurred a little and settled down. Initially the result was matte. Then after a while it oxidized and started giving a grey cast over her skin.

Thoughts:

I fully consumed this foundation in the beginning of Summer this year. I had really high hopes for this one as I had only heard good things about it being matte, long lasting and keeping the T-zone matte. It came highly recommended by many fellow bloggers. Sadly it did not live up to its hype and failed me on all accounts possible.

I have a combination to dry/very dry skin. Its a seasonal thing. My T-zone is oily in Summers and in Winters my skin has the tendency to go super dry with patches. Since I was hearing good things about Maybelline's foundation, I had to give it a try. Summers of Pakistan are very harsh. Electricity outages and humidity leads to sweat and shine on the face. For me, this foundation failed to keep my skin matte for longer periods of time. My T-zone shined like a light house by 4th hour. Moreover I prefer foundations that provides medium to full coverage whereas this one only provides sheer to medium coverage. Also the finish of this foundation isn't matte. I am not sure but I guess the squeeze tube packaging has a different formulation compared to the glass bottled one maybe. Because the texture and consistency of the product and lastly the performance is entirely different. I also found the foundation hard to settle on to the skin. Despite a lot of blending it tends to stay atop the skin and not settle in smoothly. The shade range is quite limited. hardly 4 to 5 shades are available and they do not cater to Asian/desi skin tones. Your best chance of finding the perfect match is blending of 2 shades. And furthermore it oxidizes as well, slightly, but it does. Do I need to say more?

Verdict:

Despite the claims of this foundation of being matte + poreless giving a blurring effect to the pores and keeping face shine free, it did not rise up to meet my expectations. I would call it an average drug store foundation, affordable but not result oriented.

  1. Too bad it didn't work for you, i think their liquid version is more better. Currently my favorites are Wet n wild photo focus and Milani conceal perfect.

  2. The results look average yet it still sounds like a decent drugstore foundation esp for those with dry skin.

  3. Too bad that the foundation didn't live up to your expectations. I only tried the dewy version and trust me, I love it and I'm even on my second bottle! I can't bear matte foundations because I have very dry skin. You can try the dewy option if you want to but it has a light to medium coverage - I'm not certain whether you'll fall for it or not. Nice read! :)

  4. No offense, but your cousin is in DIRE need of dermaplaning and moisturizer. Also, whoever's hand that was, had a purple bluish cast, and neither of you should've been using such a warm toned foundation with dull toned skin.

    1. If you did not mean any offence then you should have kept the unwanted opinion to yourself. Maybe my cousin is undergoing some treatment that has resulted in an outbreak of this magnitude on her skin.

  5. I've tried so many "long wearing" lipsticks that are total disappointments, but this is pretty astounding in it's longevity and coverage. MANY times better than the most expensive brands of long-wearing lipstick, including MAC, Urban Decay, NARS, Laura Mercier, etc.. It IS drying though, which is the nature of matte, long lasting lipstick, so I put lipbalm on top of it, and it's perfect
